This will sound mean and insensitive, however it is totally true: the best worst thing to have happened in John McCain's life was the five and a half years he spent in captivity at the Hanoi Hilton.
A little about John McCain... He is the son and grandson to two Navy Admirals. He finished near the bottom of his class at the Naval Acadamy. He escaped injury when an accidentally fired rocket struck his A-4 Skyhawk, rupturing and igniting his fuel tanks. McCain survivied while 132 other sailors paid the ultimate price for their service. He was captured in 1967 after his Skyhawk was shot down during a bombing raid over Hanoi. He was easily captured after he ejected from his plane and suffering 2 broken arms and a broken leg from the SA-2 Surface to Air missile strike. After five and half years of torture and captivity in the Hanoi Hilton, John McCain was released, also after refusing early release as a PR stunt by the North Vietnamese due to his liniage as the son and grandson of Navy Admirals.
The fact is that John McCain has been on the wrong side of every major issue important to Conservatives in the last 8 years, with the help of his fellow Liberal co-conspirators in the Democrat Party. He has pushed through McCain-Feingold (abridges freedom of speech) and was totally in support of his McCain-Kennedy's Allow-Illegal Aliens Amnesty Bill (thankfully defeated). He voted twice against the Bush Tax Cuts that every liberal hates (which is why I love them), but now he wants to make them permanent. Either he was a bonehead then for voting against them or he is a bonehead now for wanting to make them permanent.
There is another Vietnam Veteran, born of privilege and station that did not get captured in Vietnam, yet rose to prominence in the U.S. Senate. That man is Albert Gore Jr. What a different world we would face if Al Gore had been captured during his six months visit in Vietnam.
