I know that the Obama camp would like to have the Reverend Wright debacle go away. I also know that Reverend Wright is now positioning himself for either a book deal, a way to become the next Reverend Al Sharpton or Reverend Jesse Jackson, or both. Why else would he agree to television interviews after he nearly cost his man Obama the nomination. Honestly I have no problem with all that.
I also don't have a problem with almost anything that Reverend Wright has said during his many rants that mascarade as sermons to his flock. He is an American citizen and is entitled to his right to free speech.
What I do have a problem with is any self-proclaimed "Man of God" that would invoke the Lord to damn this nation for any reason.
When Reverend Wright said ,
"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."
He lost his standing as a man of God in my eyes. How dare he invoke God, the Lord Almighty, to not bless this nation, as the German-born Pope just did, but to damn it. America is the greatest force for good, justice, and freedom the world has ever known and in the year 2007, Wright says damn this nation. Well, damn him! Just as the liberals decried Pat Robertson, another self-proclaimed Man of God, for saying that 9/11 was visited on our nation because our nation allows homosexuals to do whatever, so to Reverend Wright should be denounced for his evil words spoken against this nation. If he was a better pastor in Chicago, maybe there would be less gang violence and less innocent people murdered because of that violence. While he points at the mote in the eye of America that is it's past racist acts, he has a beam in his own eye as he exploits his position and his color for personal gain. How many black pastors retire to a million dollar estate in a gated, predominately white community? I'm guessing none. "Reverend" Wright won't talk about the pain and suffering going on in the young black community, but he will curse white people that had nothing to do with his past and had little concern for his present. What has he done to limit the crime in the black community? What has he done as a Man of God to give young black men options and chances outside of gang life? How many sermons did he give preaching non-violence, peace and brotherhood? How many sermons did he give preaching reconciliation and forgiveness? The answer to all of these question is none. Yet he stands there on his pulpit and says "God damn America"?
No, Reverend Wright, God damn you for your hypocracy, for your explotation of your race and your position for personal gain, and for your indifference to the real problems in your community. God damn you.
